ITG’s Advanced Experimentation Centre brings together the technological centre’s activities in Artificial Intelligence applied to urban air mobility, smart energy, and industrial digitalisation. This pioneering technological infrastructure, the first of its kind in Europe, involved an initial investment of €1.9 million. It was inaugurated at the end of 2023 and, in its first year of operation, has supported 50 companies and welcomed over 700 visitors, establishing itself as a national benchmark in AI.
The facilities include a building of over 1,000 m², equipped with advanced tools for the development of AI, robotics, electronics, and communications, aimed at meeting companies’ digitalisation needs. In 2025, the centre expanded its services to include cybersecurity for the aviation sector. Its smart energy and networks laboratory—featuring predictive technology to simulate energy performance across a range of environments, from city neighbourhoods to industrial parks and major infrastructure such as hospitals or factories—has also been expanded to boost research in renewable hydrogen.
In addition, the site features a large outdoor flight cage, 15 metres high and covering 225 m², with a safety net allowing companies to conduct test flights of unmanned aerial systems for passenger and cargo transport in urban areas, all in complete safety. Adjacent to this is a vertiport, enabling vertical take-off and landing for drones. This cutting-edge setup is complemented by a mobile operations centre housed in a specially adapted vehicle, equipped with the latest in communication, navigation, surveillance, and control systems.
