Smart2Reduce
Research on 4.0 solutions in Circular Economy for the RCD recycling industry using artificial vision, advanced photonics, and 3D printing
Description
Smart2Reduce is an initiative funded by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism through the 2023 call of the support program for AEIs (Business Innovation Clusters). The general objective of the project is to achieve better in-plant separation of Construction and Demolition Waste (RCD) with the goal of turning waste into new sustainable materials for construction, using 3D printing technologies. The project focuses on researching new technologies in artificial vision and advanced photonics through advanced algorithmic based on neural networks, and aims to have a better view of its positive environmental impact through a data platform. Specific objectives:
– Specific objective in artificial vision (visible spectrum): Develop a waste segmentation and detection system using artificial vision that allows their classification.
– Specific objective in applying photonic techniques (non-visible spectrum): Apply the technique of Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) for the detection and classification of materials that are part of actual RCD.
– Specific objective in materials and 3D printing: Optimize the formulation of different concretes with RCD, trying to maximize the utilization of all typologies (origins and composition) and granulometries (sizes and distribution of the particles) of the supplied aggregates.
– Specific objective in platform and advanced algorithmic: Provide RCD companies with a management tool that, thanks to neural networks, can improve their production processes, enhancing the profitability of the product and reducing CO2 emissions.
