
Description
VERTI-GO will address the safe integration of Innovative Air Mobility (IAM) into current Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems and U-space operations, enabling flexible, scalable, and efficient urban air transport. It will develop, validate, and demonstrate key enablers across four main areas: (i) the extension of core ATM components to support IAM operations, including flight planning and vertiport reservation management; (ii) the demonstration of initial IAM operations through visual flight rules (VFR) flights using crewed electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Spain, as well as uncrewed IAM flights under SAIL IV in Germany; (iii) the definition of operational procedures in complex environments combining controlled ATM and U-space; and (iv) the deployment of advanced automation capabilities supporting ATM/U-space services for both crewed and uncrewed aircraft.
This initiative will deliver two complementary solutions targeting different technology readiness levels: a high-maturity solution for VFR operations (TRL7), and a lower-maturity solution for instrument flight rules (IFR) operations (TRL4–6). Overall, VERTI-GO will contribute to establishing the foundations of a safe, interoperable, and scalable IAM ecosystem ready for progressive deployment in European urban environments.
Objectives:
The main objective of VERTI-GO is to enable the safe, efficient, and interoperable integration of Innovative Air Mobility into the European airspace by developing and validating technologies, procedures, and operational concepts bridging ATM and U-space environments. The project also aims to demonstrate the feasibility of IAM operations in real and complex scenarios for both crewed and uncrewed aircraft, supporting the evolution from VFR-based operations to more advanced IFR operations.
In addition, VERTI-GO seeks to increase the level of automation in air traffic management services, optimize the management of urban airspace, and contribute to European-wide standardization and interoperability. Through collaboration among industry, air navigation service providers, and research organizations, the project will support IAM adoption and help build a safe, integrated, and sustainable air mobility ecosystem.
