PADIH IECO

Computer vision for aerial image segmentation in industrial environments

Category National
Sectors Renewable Energies
Execution Period 2024
Funding Ministerio de Industria y Turismo. Support Programme for Digital Innovation Hubs (PADIH).

Description

The project developed for IECO DESARROLLO DIGITAL, S.L. focused on the design and development of a computer vision prototype for the automatic segmentation of aerial images in industrial environments, with the goal of facilitating the design and simulation of self-consumption photovoltaic installations.

The solution leveraged advanced image processing and machine learning techniques to identify and classify rectangular polygons, such as industrial rooftops, present in aerial images, enabling precise and scalable designs.

During the execution of the project, the application of segmentation models for aerial images and the detection of 2D structural elements was validated, with a specific focus on identifying industrial rooftops, skylights, and vents. To achieve this, the capabilities of the Segment Anything model were integrated, allowing for an initial segmentation of shapes, followed by classification according to the type of structural element.

This project enabled IECO DESARROLLO DIGITAL, S.L. to incorporate advanced AI and computer vision technologies into its processes, improving operational efficiency and enhancing the customer experience in the design of photovoltaic installations.
