TWIN4MILK aims to transform the management model of dairy cattle farms through the development of functional digital twins, built from structured real-world data and integrated into an interoperable platform capable of anticipating risks, improving technical and economic efficiency, and enabling more sustainable, informed, and tailored decision-making process. This transformation seeks to optimize farm management from a digital perspective, adapting to the diversity of the dairy sector while ensuring scalability, transferability, and ethical data governance.

Objectives:

• To model and characterize dairy cattle farms based on genomic, nutritional, and socioeconomic information, generating a structured knowledge base that captures the productive, technological, and social diversity of the sector as a foundation for advanced digitalization.
• To design and validate functional digital twins of dairy farms as simulation and decision-support tools, integrating structured real-world data and operational efficiency principles to improve productivity, sustainability, and animal welfare.
• To design and implement a federated and interoperable digital platform for the dairy sector, capable of integrating multi-source data and deploying explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) models for use as a Decision Support System (DSS), while ensuring sector-wide usability and ethical data governance.
• To evaluate the technical, economic, and ethical feasibility of the proposed digital model by assessing its practical applicability across different types of dairy farms and analysing the impacts associated with data use within the agri-food ecosystem.
