Description

Promote a more efficient use of resources in the poultry sector applying a strategy based on the fundamentals of the circular bioeconomy, enabling a more efficient use of the waste generated in poultry activity to improve the competitiveness and environmental impact of the sector. This strategy focuses on the waste recovery of the manure generated in poultry farms (meat and egg production) for its use as an input to obtain a source of renewable energy and fertilizers and components for the use of nutrients in the soil.

AVIENERGY will thermochemically valorize the chicken and turkey manure (combustion) by means of a burner specially adapted to this type of waste that will allow obtaining thermal energy that can be used to satisfy the existing demand for heat in the farms. The ashes produced during combustion will be considered as a valuable by-product that can be applied directly to the soil to take advantage of existing nutrients, favouring the growth of crops. Additionally, the feasibility of implementing a micro-cogeneration system based on an organic Rankine cycle to obtain electrical energy, that can be used on the farm itself, will be analysed.

The following activities will be carried out:

  • Characterization of the production process.
  • Physicochemical characterization of the residue (chicken manure).
  • Study of the drying process applied on farms.
  • Study of the regulations related to emissions during ABP (animal by-products not intended for human consumption) combustion processes.
  • On-site analysis of the composition of the gaseous emissions generated in the combustion process.
  • Definition and implementation of emission control systems.
  • Microcogeneration bench tests.
  • Analysis of the feasibility of using the chicken and poultry manure to produce electrical energy.
  • Physicochemical characterization of the ash and evaluation of its toxicity and potential uses.
